Deaf Hockey Documentary 'Ice and Quiet'

VIDEO: Campaign: Canadian Film 'Ice & Quiet' A Deaf Hockey Documentary.

TORONTO - Imagine living without hearing. You'd miss the sounds of the world - music, laughter, traffic noises as you try to cross the road, a friend shouting out in the street behind you, the roar of a crowd at a hockey game.

Even the whistle of the referee or call of your teammates as you tried to play. Would you even try to play?

But what if there was a way you could despite this? What if Deaf hockey was a thing?... Oh wait, it is. And it's got an exciting story we want to share with the world.

The Ontario Deaf Hockey Association was founded in 2011 to bring Deaf and Hearing individuals and athletes together and provide pathways in sport and hockey for Deaf athletes in the province. As our athletes prepare for the Deaflympics (yeah, that's also a thing), we're putting together a documentary about Deaf hockey to help build awareness of the sport and garner support for the love of the game.

And also just because it a fascinating topic, right?

As part of the documentary, we've partnered with many different organizations including the Hockey Hall of Fame, Glide, Karbon Sports, CrossIceHockey, Epic Toronto and Kobe Sportswear.

It's going to be an intriguing and arousing short documentary with game footage along with some fan interviews. But before we can put it all together, we need your help Raising CA$3,000 to cover things like equipment, location and interpreter costs. The remaining amount will be put back into the Ontario Deaf Hockey Association to ensure that the program's success to help athletes accomplish their dreams of playing hockey and representing their province and later, Team Canada at the Deaflympics. Sign up to donate HERE.

So if you love hockey, are curious about a different version of the game or just want to be involved in an exciting documentary that will score goals at film festivals, here's your chance to get involved. We've got some great perks for all your generous support and because we're still in production there's even opportunity to be interviewed on screen... Huge Increase in 'Disabled' Scam in Europe

VIDEO: Be sure you know for whom you donating money. There's a new trend here, gypsies asking for money in the streets for disabled people.

BERLIN, Germany - Tourists are targeted by scam and rip-off artists everywhere in Europe. We were actually prepared for gypsies/scammers.

The old adage is a good one to remember when in Berlin and dealing with some of the shadier people that prey on tourists.

The gypsies people approached with petitions, claiming it was for the handicapped. At first it seemed nothing of interest, but now there are many of them, some even caught multiple times or there are multiple arrests during one day.

Here's how they work. They printed a blank on which people can sign and donate money for disabled people.

The funny thing is, text is translated with Google Translate from one language to lithuanian with errors, text above would read this:

Certificate region network - Deaf and physically inferior - For poor and children - We want international center make (make construction equipment)

But people still donate money. Also, they written some signs and how much someone "donated"

So people would give relatively as much as in the blank. They would run away from cameras and are not from this country. So, when luck will ran out here, I guarantee they will head north to Scandinavia and to the west.

So, how to recognize one? Gibberish Google Translated text, fear of cameras and not knowing native language. They could not explain this "donation" thing in more detail. So, from good will don't be robbed in the middle of the day. ... Read more: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=62b_1379069998

Blood Donations Honors Deaf Young Woman

Blood drive honors leader in Deaf community, beyond.

OLATHE, Kan. - Fox4kc.com: Fellow students and friends of a young woman who died in January from lung and heart complications held a blood drive Thursday in her honor.

Mary Margaret Grove was 18 and committed to both serving and leading at the Kansas State School for the Deaf in Olathe, where she was a high school senior.

Blood drives were among Mary Grover’s many passions as she served the community and donated her time and talents. When Mary was young, she needed platelet transfusions to help her body overcome blood clotting problems, and it became an important part of her service.

On Thursday, her family and friends teamed up with the American Red Cross for a blood drive at her school.

“I never really wanted to before. I don’t need to do that. And then you know, once we lost her I thought, you know what, today’s pretty special, I’m gong to go ahead and in honor of Mary I’m going to donate my blood. And having people here, it’s really nice to honor her,” said Alfonso Torres, who had known Mary since 3rd grade.

Many of those who organized and participated in the blood drive said it will continue to be a passion for them. ...READ MORE: http://fox4kc.com/2013/05/02/blood-drive-honors-leader-in-deaf-community-beyond/
